»Kerplunk / Toss Across / Tip It
"A better title for this game: TIC-TAC-NOOOOOOOO!"
There are times when you wonder just why some games even exist. It's
not bad games like Elf Bowling 1 & 2 - no, I'm talking about games
like Kerplunk, Toss Across, Tip It. Why a game developer would make a
collection of these three games is beyond me. These games are barely
capable of being decent in gaming - the controls are either too
complicated for children to enjoy (Toss Across and Tip It) or butchered
to be playable on the Game Boy Advance (Kerplunk).
First, we'll start with Kerplunk. Everyone who's anyone has played
Kerplunk - great little game where you have a casing full of marbles,
and the only thing that holds these marbles up are plastic sticks which
stick through holes in the casing. The objective of the game is for two
or more people taking turns to take them out of the casing, trying not
to drop any of the marbles in the process. In the Game Boy Advance
version, however, it's a lot - lot lot lot - less fun than the real
Kerplunk. All that you do is navigate through the plastic sticks, and
push A to pull one out. There's not much depth to it either, as you
can't really analyze the casing well enough to make an educated guess.
It's not good, but it's not bad either.
The second game is Toss Across. It's a tic-tac-toe-like game that,
instead of manually writing your X's and O's, you have to throw bean
bags onto rotating blocks with X's and O's on them. To do this, you
push A to initiate the power meter, and push A at the right time. It
seems like it could be fun, but I can't be bothered to enjoy it. The
third and final game, Tip It, is a strange game that I have never even
heard of before I got this game. The objective is to remove discs from
a scale with three sides on it. Remove too many at a time, and it will
unbalance, causing you to lose. This is a decent game, and is probably
the best game on the collection.
The visuals are pretty lame. Very little animation, very grainy, and
bad-looking character profiles. If I had to choose the best and worst
between the three, I'd say the best-looking was Tip It, with the
worst-looking being Kerplunk... but then again, it's all pretty bad
looking. And the sound isn't that much better - I can't remember a
single piece of music in this game, and the sound effects aren't much
more noteworthy.
The replay value is dependant on how good the game is. In a good
collection of games - say, Clubhouse Games, the replay would be off the
charts. But this is no Clubhouse Games - it's a pretty weak compilation
of children's games. It has multiplayer, and that certainly makes it a
little better, especially in Tip It.
Overall, Kerplunk, Toss Across, Tip It is a particularly weak
compilation of three decent children's games - two of which are okay at
best, and the other being not fun at all, although Kerplunk just seems
utterly pointless (why make a game about pulling out sticks when all
you do is just choose and push A?). Really, why did they even bother
creating this game?

Review Recap |
| Gameplay |
| Kerplunk's playable (but a hack-job of the real thing), Toss Across is boring and not fun, and Tip It is a decent balance game - all of which would have been better on the Nintendo DS. |

Graphics |
| Nothing to them - very simple visuals, but in this case, it's not an endearing trait, but rather it makes the games ugly. Avatars are bad, too. |

|
Sound |
| The music selection is mediocre, and I couldn't even remember any of them until I put it back into my GBA. |
 |
|
|
Replay Value |
| An average game that can be okay when played with others. |
